The Role

We are looking for a CTO / VP of Engineering to lead our engineering organisation and drive the end-to-end development and delivery of our satellite ground station product. You will be instrumental in setting our technical vision, leading product architecture, growing a high-performing team, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative, reliable, and scalable hardware and software systems.

This is a hands-on executive role requiring both deep technical expertise and strong leadership capabilities.

Define and own QuasarSat’s technical vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic and commercial objectives.

  • Lead and scale a multi-disciplinary engineering organisation across hardware, embedded systems, digital signal processing, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps.
  • Serve as the lead architect for complex systems involving software-defined radios, phased-array antennas, RF front-ends, and cloud-native software.
  • Drive execution of product development from prototype to production, ensuring reliability, performance, and quality.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a world-class engineering team.
  • Embed best practices in agile development, CI/CD, systems engineering, and product lifecycle management.
  • Partner closely with Product, Commercial, and Operations teams to translate customer needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Represent Quasar in strategic engagements with partners, customers, and technical stakeholders (e.g., government agencies, standards bodies, and conferences).
  • Ensure the company meets all necessary technical certifications, regulatory standards, and security requirements.

Job requirements

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in engineering leadership, ideally in space tech, RF systems, communications infrastructure, or a closely related field.
  • Proven track record of engineering leadership of technically complex hardware/software products, ideally in a start-up or scale-up environment.
  • Deep expertise in RF engineering, digital signal processing, embedded systems, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience with software-defined radio (SDR) and modern communication architectures is a significant advantage.
  • Strong understanding of system design, technical architecture, and engineering team management.
  • Experience with developing manufacturing supply chains and third party EMS’s.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams through scale-up phases.
  • Strong strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and executive-level communication skills and collaborative leadership style.
  • Must be eligible for Australian security clearance.
